The people at Hookah Cafe are always very nice and the service, when I go, is always good as well.

Hahahahaha Concerned mothers if your son comes home with glossy eyes am sure its not from the hookas. Your son was just covering something else you should be worring about. I honestly think you should be watching and have better PARENTING SKILLS and learn to have control of any situation instead of pointing fingers..... And i promise if you did from the startyou wouldn't be on this website complaining or NAGGING.......

What was this bar called in the 90s? TAs? CAs?something like that? It was a club in one room and pool tables in the other.

By the way Lala Land you are the biggest liar in the universe. You keep on going to other places that you mentioned. the way you talked sounds like a kid. I am a good customer for the Hookah cafe and I can't allow people like you say stuff like that, and by mentioning other places to go to sounds really funny cause you can't compare it to Hookah they are all copying Hookah cafe particularly the one down the street Gypsy, they have no idea what they are doing.

This is a place for kids, drama or fighting. Few people that work there are nice, others including THE blond drama queen, servers with rash and just people that know only how to say Hi in English should be kicked to the curb. Dishes are dirty or oily, smoke is everywhere and by the time you get out from there you smell like Falafel. But if you like gossip and you middle eastern this is the best place for you. People who like service and like go clean and get out clean should go to NARA or Sheesha or at least Gypsy to piss off hookah guys lol. Anyways i hate that place!!!!!!

In my experience with Hookah Cafe it is very clean and has decent to excellent service, depending on the night and who's working. The hookah is moderately priced and they serve totally delicious food. The Chai Tea is the best I have ever had.

Regarding the carding issue, I have seen them kid people who obviously appeared to be underage, however I am eighteen and have never personally been carded there. I know that they occasionally let kids accompany their parents. Of course these kids aren't smoking.

I have to say that if you're aware of your kid going to a hookah bar and are not doing anything to stop it then you must not have much of an issue with it. I went to Gypsy multiple times as a minor and was never carded, just a little note.

I don't care what everyone says. it is the best place in san antonio. I am happy with the service. I am so tired of hearing it takes forever to get coals if you want somthing quick go to a fast food instead asking for coals

I recently went to this cafe and I would have to say that their service was not that great. Our hookah constanly had to be cleared out because of ash and the waiters were not that friendly. Our coals went out and we had to wait quite a while before anyone came and gave us some more (after I asked a couple of times of course =/). I do not plan on visiting this cafe again....

Who cares, that is not true. 35 min is a long time, I agree I have no problem with the wait staff unless they give me an attitude. But if you have a problem just talk to the owner or the manager and they would assist you right away.

I have to say that my girlfriend and I were very disappointed in the service we received last night. It took almost 35 minutes before we were served and during out wait we watched more than one wait staff, pass us by. The wait staff was not as friendly as I had expected. Better service could have been provided. On several occasions our charcoal was allowed to run out while we waited for it to be replaced. The wait staff is disorganized and not efficient. I had high expectations because of the reviews and was completely disappointed. I do not plan on a return visit.

I was looking for a place that doesn't card. Thanks all you "concerned moms" for pointing me in the right direction! Without your insightful commentary, I would have never known where to go!

Ok so I am the Lauren he is talking about and I'd just like to say that I appreciate the compliment but all the servers are great servers. And about the coal situation, I don't know how that is possible because we have a guy who is hired just to do coals. All the servers and coal guy and hookah makers all work their butts off to provide great customer service. SO COME AND ENJOY ;)

By the way whitemocha. what are you saying is not true. I always go there and they have a guy doing nothing but giving coals. if he is late on giving coals you need to understand cause they get real busy. I have no idea how you compare this place to gypsy which they don't have half the tobacco compare to hookah or anyone in town. The service is great to all the guys..if you want to go to a slow place go to gypsy and pay way more...

I go here at least 3 times a week. But let me tell you if you have anyone besides LAUREN, dont go. Its not worth it. The service sucks and your hookah ends up wasted because your coal is never refilled. But if you do have LAUREN then you will definitely be taken care of.

I do recommend Gypsy down the street. Bit pricier but worth it in the end.

i've been to hookah cafe plenty of times. the the selection they have is great, and the price range is reasonable. so if you're looking for something exotic and new, or something simple, they've got it. the service is good. the only reason i say that is because sometimes they get really busy (and by sometimes, i actually mean ALL THE TIME). if people go there during peak hours, they shouldn't be suprised if they don't get immediate service. the servers are very kind and put alot of effort into making your hookah smoking experience pleasant. as for the used shish issue, i honestly don't know whether they do or not, but everyone there seem like very honest workers.

Wow, Moms need to chill out and check the mirror. I never drank or smoked before my legal age because MY PARENTS, NOT THE BAR OWNER, thought me to follow the law and respect it. My parents were the reason I was able to be a mature adult at such a young age and to be able to determine the consequences of my own actions.

Aside from "Angry Moms", I like Hookah Cafe...its nice and they use good tobacco. I always say this to my friends...I have smoked world wide and in states across the USA, and this place is good...Its the second best place in SA...The Best in their part of town...

I always recommend people to go to Hookah Cafe and Sultan Cafe (read my description about them under their link). Both places ID and I know Sultan Marks and X on minors and kicks them out if they touch the hookah...they both pick up IDs....

ANGRY MOMS, if you have a problem with your kids smoking hookah, its probably SHISHA CAFE...thats another reason why i dont go there...I feel they need to hire babysitters instead of waitstaff...NOT KIDDING...

SULTAN CAFE AND HOOKAH CAFE are the best in their areas of SAN ANTONIO...
my name is ryan by the way...tc

[Posted by Justin - "I quit after two weeks because (blah, blah, blah)...bad service too."]

You worked there, you WERE the service. If it was bad service, it was your fault.

Tobacco used in a hookah burns through, so you cannot use it again in the same way that you cannot glue a cigarette back together and smoke it again; not without noticing at least. Once it's cached, it's done.

Also - some places allow persons aged 17 to enter, but they are not allowed to smoke or purchase tobacco. If they do smoke, and they're your kids, maybe you should be more worried about your kid's fault and less about the owner's fault in the matter. Hookahs while it's illegal, and once smoking is legal, it's on to bigger and "better" things that are outside the bounds of the law. Good luck with blaming that on a hookah bar owner.

Hip... but concerned Mom - this is for you
...why is your under age daughter at a hookah bar... this is what's wrong with out government. instead of blaming your own child for going to such place we blame the place of business. plus majority of people have fake ids now a days.. i remember when i was under age, i use to buy alcohol and tobacco. THIS IS BULL SHIT I HATE THIS SHIT MOTHERE..AJDF;LKAF ;LKAJFJ;LAKNF,MZNV.

Concerned about the minors that are smoking. This is illegal. It is worse than cigs! These young people do not know what they are getting themselves into. There is no governing agency that is watching out for the long term health effects. Some studies show you become impotent. Again worse than cigs. They do not card at any of these places, my 16 year old and her friends did a research paper on this. Visited all the Hookah cafes in SA and only 1 carded. This was on Wed nights because that is when they are not too busy, so they had plenty of time to card but did not. Parents beware! Notify TABC they will investigate and close them down. It's all about the money and nothing more for these owners. They certainly do not have our youths best interst in mind!!

This place's service undulates due to a rotating door waitstaff. It seems that a crew will come in, become well trained and give great service, then said trained employees will quit and a group of new hires will come and and start the situation over again, giving slow service until they get their act together. I'm in here essentially weekly and really enjoy the place, but this is definitely the biggest problem. My last favorite server just left and its at a bad patch again. It took nearly a half hour for a server to come by and notice my group joined some others in the establishment so we could even order. This is sad, since normally I would be greeted by the staff (very friendly) and served immediately. Also this Justin character did not work there, I'm good friends with someone that used to work there; the playlist and tobacco re-using are both fibs...its even obvious considering you can choose which grade of tobacco you want to order.

terrible and slowwww service. not the best atmosphere either .. my friends and i waited so long for a menu and new coals that we were able to get up, not pay our bill and stood in front and STILL werent noticed... and the worst part that it was a wednesday night and it wasnt even that busy ...

First off Jamie, Please learn how to spell. Secondly, you're right about concerned mom, she obviously has no idea what she's saying. Every hookah bar I've been to uses disposable protective plastic mouth guards, so that eliminates the herpes factor! Also, if the son comes home glassy eyed it's not hookah he's been smoking....
Jamie
23 Aug 2008, 11:40
Concern Mom..don't worry about all that. there is nothing on them and instead of guessing and bad mouth the hookahs you should come and check it out yourself, now your son needs to stay at home or do somthing about it and quiet blaming others for your son...

22 Aug 2008, 12:53
This sounds like back in the 70's when everyone was smoking from bongs. These kids have no idea what is being placed in the tobacco to keep them coming back for more...I know there has to be something because when my son comes home his eyes are all glassy...keep in mind...who smoked from that hookah before your lips touched it??? I would be concerned with everything out there these days.

Mam sorry that you are upset about your son or your daughter for being there, first of all it is not a bar. We always check ID's and if they have a fake ID you need to question them...so be upset about your kids trying to break the law.

If the waitstaff are carding the patrons then how are the teenagers getting in? My 17year-old daughter just confessed to me that she gets in through one of the waitstaffs at the Cafe. Her girlfriend is good friends with the waitstaff.

To Justin. Did you really work at Hookah Cafe. And if you did, explain how would somebody use an old tobacco. I thought tobacco burns after you use it, would not? You are the scientist.

Yes Victoria, you have to be 18 to legally smoke at any hookah serving location. The Hookah Cafe does card and does not serve tobacco to minors because they want the place to stay within the bounds of the law and not become a place where a bunch of underaged people go. They do this to protect themselves from being legal issues and to protect the underaged people from prosecution by the state. In a word: YES you MUST be 18... they won't let u sit there if you're not.
Victoria

whoever this justin guy is has no idea what he is talking about. i am a server at hookah cafe and i have not had any complaints about the hookah flavors. we have more than 65 flavors to choose from, and we never re-use tobacco from another hookah.
Hey Justin, in case you didnt know once tobacco has been smoked out of a hookah, it becomes burnt and cannot be re-used.
Have a great day!
