So when the firefly first opened I was hesitant to go because I'm not a smoker, but I was convinced, and found one of my new favorite bars. I used to frequent the firefly because it was a great change of pace, great low key atmosphere, chill music and environment. It was the perfect place to go after having a few beers and relaxing.
Well a few years after leaving Kent, I came back to visit one of my favorite bars,, and am still wondering what happened... what happened the bar. Is the staff? Lack of management? Do the owners not care anymore?
There's no more chill low key atmosphere, loud obnoxious music, bright lights, and horrible service. My only request for our server was if she could dim the lights a little, and her response was but I have homework to do... o thanks for the exceptional service and keeping up with your standards that made this bar popular.
If you want to smoke hookah and have the chill atmosphere, don't waste the drive or your time and money to come here. Buy your own hookah and stay home. That's my plan, firefly you just lost a loyal customer. Thank-you staff at firefly for the wonderful experience.

Most of the positive reviews written on this section were written by those who actually work at the Firefly.
Here is the 411 on the firefly, good and bad--
The place is pretty small. Its okay for a weekday place, but they do not have adequate seating up to par with real lounges.
The place is run by college kids. Everything is cheap. The bottom line is that they have no competition for at least 20 miles so they have no need to run a quality lounge.
The hookahs themselves are cheap, and the tobacco is even worse. The hookahs are poorly made processed generic glass Syrians. They use Hookah-Hookah tobacco which is known to veteran hookah smokers as low grade tobacco.
They wash their hoses with water which makes the hoses rust because the hoses themselves are not washable. Then they wonder why the hoses are clogged with what seems like charcoal.
That is just the equipment, I haven't even gotten to the service. The servers are honestly just a bunch of cocky college kids. All they really care about is chilling with each other/friends they bring in and they won't give you quality service unless they plan on trying to get your phone number.
They give you 1 coal on top which lasts about 25 minutes and then you have to get up and go find someone to get you another.
Not only that, but they claim to be open until 3am on weekends but I have personally gone in at 1am on three separate occasions and they have "closed the kitchen"--get real here.
Honestly until another hookah bar opens in Kent to compete with these guys, or they realize what a disgrace to hookah bars they are, nothing is going to change. This place isn't a hookah lounge, its just a room filled with hookahs.
I apologize if you feel that this review is harsh however nothing I have said is false, and it seems like a wakeup call is due.

My friends and I decided to go check out the Firefly lounge last Friday night. None of us had ever been there, or to another hookah bar for that matter, before so we didn't know what to expect.
A group of five of us got there around ten. There was a wait of about 20 minutes, although I think the only reason it was that long was because we had the unfortunate luck to walk in behind a party of 12. We took a number off the wall, and went outside to talk. The wait went by very quickly, and soon we were seated.
The atmosphere is very relaxing. The music matched my tastes very well, and the couches were very comfortable. If you plan on bringing a camera, make sure you have a good flash, because the lighting is quite subdued.
A list of available flavors is posted in the window, and we perused it while we waited for a table. We decided to keep things simple and go with apple flavored tobacco, although there are endless choices and combinations available.
A hookah costs $9.95 and can be split among however many people are in your group. For an additional $1.50 you can add pink lemonade, apple, or orange juice to your hookah. On Friday and Saturday nights there is a 1 drink minimum per person, which is $1.50 for fountain drinks and coffee, and $2.50 for things like energy drinks and teas.
There is also a small variety of cheesecakes from the Cheesecake Factory and cakes available if you get hungry. At $4.95 a slice, it may seem pricey, but they are very tasty.
Although the staff doesn't hover over you the entire time, that doesn't mean they aren't there for you when you need them. Our coals were kept hot, and we were able to flag down someone to get a menu and order a slice of cake.
Smoking a hookah is a very interesting and fun experience. None of the people in our group smoke regularly, and one person has only smoked once, but everyone enjoyed the hookah. It is a smoother smoke than cigarettes or cigars, and has a wonderful flavor.
The Firefly is an experience not to be missed. Plan to spend lots of time relaxing, talking, and smoking your hookah. Make sure you bring identification, because it's the first thing they want to see after you're seated. I can't wait to go back the next time I'm in Kent.

I was at The Firefly about a month ago when I went to visit my friend who attends KSU and I had an absolute blast here! The servers were very helpful and our server's recommendation was amazing (a mix of blueberry, lemonade, and mint) and it's cheap as well, so it's perfect for college students. It's small, but a very friendly and very comfortable atmosphere and good music. Their cheesecake is also to die for.

I love the Firefly me and my friends probally go there 3 times a month.I love it the comfy atmosphere and the music. The only bad thing I can think about it, there are a few bad servers, you have to go up to get ahold of them but other are very attentive and nice. But over all I love the Firefly

So this place was awesome...... BUT there's a guy there with redish orange beard and hair who's the WORST server I have ever had here. We were there for a decent amount of time and from the time we got in the door until we left one of us was always having to go up and ask him for something that we shouldn't have had to ask for... All was well except for "mister red"

Check out our official Facebook page at:
http://www.facebook.com/fireflyhookahbar
We are located in the heart of downtown Kent, lucky enough to be surrounded by great places with college student traffic.
I assure you that Firefly is your best choice among hookah bars in NEO. Business is thriving, our students in the area keep us current on the popular demand, we keep adding new flavors, our walls are colored in by local community artists and our employees are some of Kent's most talented.
On staff we have: a DJ, a biologist, a musician, a photographer, a sculpture artist, a PR girl, a PoliSci genius, a freshman, a graffiti artist, a sorority girl and a ladies man on his way up in the world. You wouldn't even guess how wide-varying our music selection can be. So come check it our for yourself!

To be Honest, if you go to the Firefly and like it, then you really don't really know that i could be much better, starting with the fact they rip you off every time u buy a hookah off of them.If you buy Hookah Hookah in a and the price is $10 for a small bowl that can only fit 1 coal then what i figured off they spend about $.05 per bowl if you buy 1 250gm can of 1 flavor.

I just went there last night for my first time with a few friends and we had a great time. The scene was really relaxing with couches and lit up tables... our server recommended a good summer mix of pineapple, peach and watermelon hookah and it was amazing. They had a summer special of ice cream sandwiches for just $1 and crayons to color in advertisements. Pretty hip and cool place, I have to say I was impressed.

Firefly is easily the best hookah bar in the Kent/Akron area. I go there at least a few times a week and always have a good time. The atmosphere is real chill and they have good prices, too. The servers are always cool and a lot of fun and I make sure to tip them well. Go here for sure. (Wednesdays are the best day to go).

Firefly is a sweet place to relax and smoke hookah. The servers are cool and play good music... everyone there likes to have a good time. The atmosphere is just laid back with the lights dim and comfy couches. Lots of kids hang there. It's a chill place.

$9.50 per bowl.
Bowls they use are *very* shallow Egyptian style, which hold roughly 10-20 grams of shisha (the tobacco).
Brands they use are Nakhla (fairly low quality) and Hookah Hookah (also pretty crappy).
A 250 gram box of Nakhla sells for about $9.95, and a 250 gram jar of Hookah Hookah goes for about $8.99.
If this doesn't scream rip off, I don't know what does.

This is a cool place. I go there pretty often, the only downside is that there is usually a wait for seats. they play great indie music too. random stuff always seems to happen, like tonight some guy got up and started rolling around a crystal ball, making it look like it was floating like a bubble. crazy. and everyone just went wild with applause afterwards. only at firefly...

Firefly. The only hookah bar in Kent. Anyone think we can do better? They have terrible service, ridiculously long waits, large amounts of annoying drunkards, far too loud of music... Not quite the environment pictured for a hookah bar. I'm thinking about starting up another hookah bar in the Kent area, with much better service and a far better atmosphere. Hopefully it will open at the beginning of the '09/'10 school year.

The Firefly in Kent is a great experience, check it out if you are in or around Kent and enjoy good a good Hookah experience. I go there often, and enjoy it everytime. Hope to see you there sometime. As mentioned before, Fri and Sat can be busy, get there right after 5 when they open, and just chill until later if you like the late night atmosphere.

I live pretty close to Kent, and one of my favorite things to do is get a small group together and go to Firefly. The atmosphere is chill and cool as hell and they have AWESOME flavors. The waiters are all pretty cool and they have some great cheesecake too. Last time I went was on a Thursday and we had lots of fun. Firefly is also a great place to meet people, and with a few bars and food places around it, its an awesome place to stop on a night in Kent.
My favorite flavors are the Acai Berry and the mixture of fruits. Delicious :)

This place is okay, but the wait on a friday night at about 9 or 10 really sucks. service is not so great either. Doesnt seem to be enough servers to keep the coals fresh, and drinks full. But lots of nice people. The bathrooms are super gross BLECH! Overall i reccemend it, try the cheesecake, and Rasbery lemonade shisha
